Part of our Looking at the Blog Archives series….

Tieman archives Cuba MO History Museum

Newspaper articles, photos, and written documents comprise the Tieman information at the Crawford County History Museum in Cuba.

Viva Cuba has been blogging about beautification, Cuba’s public art, preservations, and a mixed bag of other subjects since April 2009. We now have over 200 blogs in our archives, which you can access from the first page of our blog. You can also read current blogs there. Click on a blog to read it in its entirety.

We’ve decided to take a tour through our history in 2011 by going back to the beginning and looking at each month’s blog entries and picking a few to highlight again. The blogs that will be spotlighted have something to do with local history. Some may lead to related links or blogs. This is a preview of the series.

This first spotlighted  blog leads to information on the mural that is painted on Hayes Shoe Store that depicts the history of Prosperity Corner, an earlier store that stood on the corner. It was owned by H.H. Tieman, who had a colorful past in Cuba.

H.H. Tieman and his wife Elizabeth

H.H. Tieman has long been a subject of local lore. Here, he he stands beside his wife Elizabeth.

People think that history is old stuff that doesn’t change. That’s not always true. New discoveries, photos, and documents are sometimes found that keep history alive. That happened recently when Viva Cuba was contacted by the great-grandson of H.H. Tieman John Samuel Tieman, who is interestingly enough a history teacher in St. Louis. He shared some family anecdotes, and we shared some photos and information from the History Museum on Smith Street.  In the course of our research we found some photos that we hadn’t seen before. No doubt, we will be blogging more about this new Tiehman connection at a later date. For now, we are just looking back  at previous info. And we will blog more about H.H. Tieman, whose story, up to this point, has been primarily told on mural tours.
